Everything You Need to Know About Window Security Screens
When considering window security screens for your home or office, the three most important features to carefully evaluate are:
Mesh
Frame
Egress
For the stainless steel mesh, you will want a 12x12 weave per square inch. And will should get the wire that’s .035” in diameter. These two things, the density of the weave and the thickness of the wire, will give you maximum protection from intruders and flying objects (missiles!) during severe weather conditions. It will also retain good pass-thru light from the outside. Some companies skimp on the wire. They save money by selling a 10x10 weave (less dense) and thinner wire. The result is a cheaper product. But it give you the security you need. And when it comes to security, don’t go cheap. You will regret it.
The same applies to the frames. The frames on our security screens are reinforced with an extra extrusion that serves as a stiffener. It’s what gives our screens the hurricane category 4 certification. No other company has a security screen that is certified for missile impact at 156 mph. You may not have severe weather in your area, but that same strength serves you well when some creep is trying to break into your home. You definitely want a frame that will resist all impact and attempt to pry it open.
Egress is super important. We know our security screens will keep the bad guys from getting in, but can you and your loved ones get OUT in the event of an emergency. That’s why our latch really shines. It meets and exceeds ADA requirements, meaning it’s very easy for anyone - including your children and the elderly - to open it in case of fire. The bottom line is, be sure to double check the escape mechanism on the screens you are considering. And then compare it to ours. You will be very impressed. Guaranteed!
